Gamified Recycling Apps: Can Rewards Make People...
Recycling app rewards can work, but only if the right conditions are...
Farah Alkhateeb, the founder of eGreenBadge, was recently profiled by UAE Stories for her work building a circular economy platform in the UAE and rethinking the way waste is valued.
Her path into sustainability was not a direct one. Over more than 15 years, she worked across IT, banking, technology, digital marketing and sales before moving into the circularity space. She brought that commercial and systems mindset with her, and it shaped how she approached the problem. Rather than asking people to care more about waste, she asked how the whole system could be made to work better. That question became eGreenBadge.
The platform follows a resource through its full journey, from production and sale through collection, treatment and reuse, and connects the players who each hold a piece of that chain: consumers, companies, collectors, recyclers and governments. The idea at the centre of it is that a material does not lose its value the moment it is thrown away. What is usually lost is visibility. eGreenBadge was built to close that gap by bringing data, traceability and accountability to how resources move.
Alkhateeb is now focused on scaling eGreenBadge nationally across the UAE, with a longer view toward regional and then international growth. Her wider argument is that sustainability does not have to sit outside the economy. When the resources inside our waste stay visible, measurable and economically connected, an environmental problem turns into a real commercial opportunity.
